Typography

One typeface in seven sizes, chosen so that every letter is easy to tell apart.

Typeface

Atkinson Hyperlegible Next is used for all text, with Atkinson Hyperlegible Mono for code. Both are variable fonts served from this site, so no request goes to a font provider.

The characters people most often confuse: capital I, lowercase l and the digit 1; capital O and zero; r next to n against m; B and 8.

Scale

The three largest sizes grow with the width of the window. Headings set their own size, so plain h1 to h4 elements need no classes.

Line length

Running text is capped at 40rem, about 75 characters a line at body size. The prose class applies the cap and the spacing between paragraphs.

During my career I have successfully transitioned through all the changes the web has thrown at us: from the early days of cgi-bin scripts for contact forms to modern multi-language monoliths and micro-services built with AI agentic development tools.

Creating functional, frictionless interfaces still brings me genuine enjoyment. I love the small details and rhythms of a well-designed interface and find a strange appreciation for nicely laid out code.
